“Glen, what are your thoughts on the issues surrounding the obvious importance of us being good role models for our children?” (An inquiry from a reader of my blog and book.)
Response: Humbly and respectfully, it has a LOT to do with what we want to pass down – pass forward from generation to generation. Being truly loving, mindful, and selfless role models for children is a wonderful gift we can allow ourselves, most particularly when it is substantively inclusive of a genuinely healthful dietary, exercise/mobility, and stress/anxiety-controlling WAY OF LIFE: It is in the splendidly healthful spirit of Acting Without Acting, e.g., doing the right thing for the right sake…without the need for selfish recognition or hidden agendas. It is in substantive affinity with the notion of the ‘true responsibility of healthful interaction,’ e.g., displaying dignity, decency, goodness, and grace in our interactions, and figuring out how to truly mean it…no matter what. It can be splendidly promoting of greater and greater appreciation of the notion that we are all so very much in the same common boat. Deep realization of this wonderful circumstance can be an immaculate ‘glimpse of Heaven.’ It is so VERY much about true appreciation – among the things on this earth in which it ‘doesn’t get better than’…a ‘gift that just keeps on giving’ (not JUST in the immediate sense – but including for generations upon generations). It is a true responsibility whose depth goes WELL(!) beyond words. — Dr. Glen Hepker
